Artist Statement
The act of creating is my passion. Creating an abstract with acrylics is an engaging experience in which I rely on the fundamental elements of shapes, forms, shadows, colors, values and textures. It’s a process of the addition and subtraction of these elements until they unite in a fascinating vision of beauty, joy and calmness. Because of my background in photography, my abstracts will usually have the same type of compositions as my photographs. As a photograph helps you recall your memories, my paintings take my memories built on life experiences into each layer creating a new history in each work. I study ordinary objects, finding beauty in shapes formed by shadows and light, and recognizing that there is so much beauty and serenity in an otherwise noisy and imperfect world. Using color and form as language, my work is alive with emotion through the movement of brushwork in each layer. The constant balancing of aesthetics is my goal and I am thrilled when viewers tell me what they see in the works because everyone has different life experiences, emotions and inspirations which filter their perceptions. I am inspired by the colors and shapes in water, clouds, oil spills, peeled paint, lights and darks. My wish is for the viewer to see something of beauty unique to them and stirs their emotions, hopefully in an exciting yet soothing way.
Paintings are available in many sizes of giclée on canvas or metal. If painting information says, "Original Sold" a giclée is available. If painting says "SOLD" a giclée isn't available.
